When you talk about InTime being the complete package - I'm talking about the software, the customer support and the conference, the whole big package. I could not be more happy with InTime. It's better than any other software that we've purchased."

Overview of Boone County Sheriff’s Office
Boone County Sheriff’s, located in Indianapolis, is made up of several divisions. These include patrol, investigation, reserve, courthouse, CSI, corrections, and a communications division.
The Boone County Sheriff’s Office Challenges
Before InTime, the Boone County Sheriff’s office relied on various manual processes like Excel spreadsheets to manage all of their different divisions. They were facing all the associated issues with a manual process like poor communication, poor oversight and difficulty managing officer fatigue.
MANUAL PROCESS CAUSED INEFFICIENT COMMUNICATION
Boone County Sheriff’s had no transparency between departments and struggled with making their schedules easily accessible for all their employees. Timesheets, leave requests, and overtime slips were all managed by phone, email, or paper hand-off. This meant that employees often had to track down their supervisor to get approvals or even drive to their supervisor’s house if it was a matter of urgency
“[Excel] wasn’t that user friendly as far as being able to see it within a moment’s notice.” – Chief Deputy Beard
PLANNING RESOURCES AHEAD OF TIME WAS A CHALLENGE
With no visibility, Boone County Sheriff’s struggled with allocating their resources at the right time and at the right place. It was difficult to have an accurate view of their manpower ahead of time which led to challenges in the ability to be proactive with their staffing.
MANUAL PROCESS EXPOSED BOONE COUNTY SHERIFF’S TO FATIGUE RISK
With a manual process, Boone County Sheriff’s struggled to keep track of how many back-to-back shifts an officer was working. This exposed the department to the potentially large departmental liabilities that they just could not ignore.
Present Day Improvements
Boone County Sheriff’s implemented InTime in 2017 with the goal of streamlining their scheduling and workforce management. Now, with InTime, Boone County Sheriff’s is working more efficiently, reducing departmental risks and liabilities, and has significantly improved staff engagement.
IMPROVED COMMUNICATION RESULTED IN SCHEDULING EFFICIENCY
With InTime, schedules can be easily accessed by all employees at any time. Employees can also submit requests through their computer or smartphone and supervisors get instantly notified. And employees are notified in real-time of any approvals. This eliminates any unnecessary communication, improving scheduling efficiency.
“You can go on your phone, on your laptop, wherever, and you can access your schedule within a click.” – Chief Deputy Beard
OVERSIGHT ENABLED BOONE COUNTY SHERIFF’S TO MAKE TIMELY STAFFING DECISIONS
InTime has allowed Boone County Sheriff’s to view all their divisions and schedules within one field of view. With the ability to view their available resources at any point, Boone County Sheriff’s can build their schedules weeks in advance. This means putting resources at the right time and at the right place has never been easier. This oversight has allowed them to become more proactive and make timely staffing decisions to best protect their community.
“I can start building my manpower depending on what we need based on what we see instantly on InTime. This helps us put my people at the right time and at the right place to prevent whatever is occurring in my community.” – Chief Deputy Beard
OFFICER FATIGUE IS NOW PROACTIVELY MANAGED
Now, with InTime tracking and alerting any fatigue non-compliance, Boone County Sheriff’s is now protected against making any unsafe staffing decisions. This has been tremendously helpful on keeping their staff safe and alert.
“To have a system that, in the background, is warning us that an officer worked too many hours and is getting into unsafe territory has been a tremendous help for us.” – Chief Deputy Beard
VALUABLE TAKEAWAYS AT INTIME’S ANNUAL CONFERENCE
In addition to the improvements that InTime’s software has provided, Boone County Sheriff also benefitted from InTime’s annual conference, InTime University. They found great value in the conference’s content and from speaking with other attendees. In addition, they found that InTime’s customer support to be responsive and helpful. They feel confident that InTime, as a whole package, helps them achieve their goal as a department.
“But truly, when we attended InTime U, the stuff that we went through throughout the day wasn't just fluff. And even moments outside of class, we’d be constantly stealing tips and tricks from other police that were just so valuable.”
